9 Ways to Simplify Your Life

The entrepreneurial life is all too often whirlwind-busy – every day is different, and comes with its own long list of tasks that must be accomplished in the name of business success. If you’re an entrepreneur, the practice of simplifying day to day life is of immense important. Here are nine ways to do just that.

Make Time

Saying “I don’t have time” is often a copout for what we know we want or ought to be doing, but allow work to interfere with. Make time for the things that are most important to you each and every day – spending time with family and friends, pursuing hobbies, or just relaxing.

Be a Positive Thinker

Negative thinking can deeply impact your day to day life – and your business. If you experience negative or intrusive thoughts, banish them with positive self-talk and remind yourself that you are in control of your life, your business, and your destiny. Over time, this will become an ingrained habit.

Erase Debt

Being behold to anyone can be a psychological as well as a financial burden. Take steps to effectively manage your debt and eliminate it as soon as you can – a debt-free existence is a low-stress one, too.

Disconnect

The conventional entrepreneurial wisdom is that you should be plugged in 24/7; but this isn’t good for you, and subsequently is not good for your business. Spend a few hours every day disconnecting from social media, your phone, your email client, and take the time to refocus your mind without the constant stream of input.

Fully Engage

Don’t distract yourself. When you’re engaging in a task, be fully present in that task – be aware of what you are doing and its importance. Don’t allow yourself to get distracted by your phone’s email alert going off, the temptation to hop onto Facebook – you can do that once you’ve finished. Engage with what you’re doing at all times, whether writing a blog post or composing a new tweet.

Have Less Stuff

Less is more, especially when it comes to possession. Owning fewer things means less clutter and less distraction – and overall, less stress. Strive to make the bulk of your possessions things that you actually need to have, cut back on frivolous and unnecessary possessions, and routinely go through your belongings to donate or sell what you don’t need or use.

Clean Up Your Workspace

This is especially important if you work from home. Having a cleaner workspace increases productivity and assists in focus. Have an organizational system for your office or workspace and keep to it. Don’t let your desk stay a mess. Spend a few minutes every day decluttering your workspace – it’s a great way to start the day and focus your mind.

Live Healthfully

Eat a good diet and get out and move. Living healthfully means fewer health problems, less fatigue, and very often, a better state of mind. Living healthfully is also an excellent tool for managing the symptoms of mental illness and disorders, such as anxiety or depression.

Clarify Your Goals

Make sure you’re clear on what it is you’re doing and why. What do you want to accomplish today? Tomorrow? Next month? Next year? Keep these goals clear and chart your course to accomplishing them – whether you make lists or keep a goal journal.
